-
The Town's Budget process begins in mid-August when each department head reviews
their year-to-date totals of what they have spent during the year.
-
Then, an estimate is made
as to how much each department head thinks they will spend by the end of the year.
-
Based on
those estimates, department heads estimate how much they will need for the next fiscal year's
expenses.
-
For revenues, the Clerk reviews how much money was taken in during the year and
estimates what will be received during the next fiscal year.
-
Once all revenues and expenses
are estimated, the Town Board holds budget workshops to review the budget.
-
During these
workshops, money is added and subtracted to determine what the Town's tax rate (mill rate) will be.
-
This tax rate determines the amount of Town tax on your property tax bill.
-
Once the Town Board
agrees on a balanced budget, the budget is presented to the public at a Budget Public Hearing and
Special Town meeting, which is usually the last Wednesday in October.
-
At this meeting, the
electors take a vote to approve the budget and this sets the Town's tax rate.
-
Please watch the
Town Board Agendas & Minutes page for the
above named meetings.
