  • A NOTE FROM THE WAUKESHA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

  • Addresses, Addresses, Addresses…..  Please make sure your address is clearly posted on your property near the roadway. More and more addresses are not being taken care of and it is making it difficult for the Sheriff’s Department and the Big Bend/Vernon Fire Department from finding your home in an emergency. Please make sure your property is clearly marked. Time matters in an emergency and spending it looking for an address is not good for the community.

  • Warm weather is on the way and we ask that you please make sure your vehicles are secure at all times if it is not in your garage. Thieves will walk around subdivisions and lift car handles to see if they are open and then remove items from them if they are left open. They like to take laptops, M3 players, CD’s, change and anything else that you may be tempting to a crook. If your vehicle is parked outside, leave an outside light on. The better lighted your outside property is, the less chance you will become a victim.

  • Please Slow Down in school zones and stop for buses that have their flashing red lights on. The Sheriff’s Department will write a citation to people who fail to stop for school buses that are loading and unloading children. We take the safety of our children very seriously.

  • Spring and summer brings out the ATV’s. Please remember that it is illegal to drive your ATV on any roadway in the Town of Vernon. We also receive several complaints on a yearly basis about noise from the ATV’s. The Town Ordinance does state the following:

  • Off-the-road vehicles. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate within the Town limits of the Town of Vernon any off-the-road vehicle unless authorized by this section. Off-the-road vehicles may be operated on premises owned by the operator or by a member of the operator's family if the operator resides on the premises where the vehicle is being operated, or on the private property of another with the consent of the owner or lessee, as follows: Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. or dusk, inclusive.  In such a manner that the noise from the operation of the vehicle does not cause a nuisance, disturbance or annoyance to the persons residing near said operation.   In such a manner so as not to endanger the person or property of another.

  • The Town of Vernon also has a noise ordinance to go along with the above ordinance, please feel free to review it at the Town of Vernon Web Site. Please be considerate of your neighbors.

  • If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at (262)548-7122 or contact your Town Supervisors and they will pass it on to us. With your help, we will continue to keep the Town of Vernon a safe place to live.

  • WAUKESHA COUNTY SHERRIFF'S DEPT CITIZENS ACADEMY - FALL SESSION - SEPT 4 - OCT 30

  •   Applications are now being accepted for the fall session of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department Citizens Academy.

  •   The academy will meet every Tuesday evening at the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

  •   This is a great opportunity to not only experience what it is like to be a police officer but also to see the inside operations of the Waukesha Sheriff's Department.

  •   While learning about the largest law enforcement agency in Waukesha County, you can schedule to ride along in a squad, spend an evening at the shooting range, hear about the specialty teams and see how a detective works a case.  Many of the classes are "hands on" so you can put yourself in the "officer's shoes" and see how you would react if you were to face the same situations.

  •   Come join us for this informational, thought provoking and enjoyable experience.

  •   We realize you have busy schedules so we know you may not be able to attend every session but most graduates have told us that they didn't want to miss any.

  •   If you have questions please call Detective Steve Pederson at 262-896-8137 or if you would like to have an application sent to you call 262-548-7126.

  •   We hope to see you this fall.
